As part of its ambition to help eliminate uncorrected poor vision in a generation, the Group created the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation last year. The Foundation plays a major role in supporting the Group’s sustainability strategy and commitment to advocate for good vision as a basic human right.
Today, it is one of the largest Foundations in the world driving inclusive vision care access thanks to the support of its partners, including governments, NGOs, like-minded private sector organizations, as well as, employees. In 2023, more than 3,500 volunteers supported the Foundation by conducting vision screenings, fundraising activities and contributing their skills as part of ongoing efforts to promote “The Right to See”, putting an emphasis on good vision as a basic human right.
Integral to its efforts is also the support of marquee Group brands, including Oakley, Sunglass Hut, LensCrafters, among many others, who continue to reinforce the importance of good vision by working with celebrity athletes globally and conducting vision clinics for beneficiaries in need. The Foundation’s slate of ambassadors includes Diamond DeShields, a renowned professional basketball player for the Dallas Wings of the Women’s National Basketball Association, Rohit Sharma, the well-loved Indian national cricketer, Kylian Mbappé, legendary soccer player for Paris Saint Germain and Li Zhixuan, a Chinese marathon runner. As a result of a tremendous effort from Group retail brands globally, more than 1.2 million customers have chosen to support the Foundation this year alone, with plans underway to expand its global Customer Giving reach in 2024.
To ensure the spotlight is put on vision care at the highest levels, advocacy will remain at the forefront of its efforts. Anurag Hans, the Group’s Head of Mission and President of the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation recently participated in the Devex @ UNGA78 and Foreign Policy Health Forum events on the sidelines of the recent United Nations General Assembly in New York. These events brought together government, business and NGO leaders, vision care health experts and academia to discuss critical issues shaping the world. These discussions are critical as they not only raise awareness but also foster collaboration among decision makers and stakeholders in the industry, in support of the Foundation’s strategies and initiatives to eliminate uncorrected poor vision.
The Foundation’s Country and regional heads as well as Group leaders continue to inspire action on the ground, with many conducting in-country activities based on critical community needs and showcasing the impact of its efforts through media interviews that reach the masses.
The Group is looking forward to the strides that it will be making across the globe, specifically in Latin America, with its newly established Foundation affiliate that will focus on the most vulnerable communities, including the approximately 190 million people who suffer from uncorrected refractive efforts in the region.
Since 2013, the Group’s advocacy and philanthropic actions have collectively provided 700 million people with access to permanent vision care through more than 26,000 access points and helped to correct and protect the vision of 70 million people around the world.
