Eyes on Art: Putting Art at Your Fingertips & On Public Screens
3 min

EssilorLuxottica is continuing its commitment to make art accessible for all by breaking down barriers with innovative ideas that help the visually impaired discover art though touch and reach global audiences by broadcasting on public screens.

Through ‘Eyes on Art’, part of its Eyes on the Planet sustainability program, EssilorLuxottica openly shares artistic works, hidden gems and popular masterpieces so that the beauty of art can be enjoyed by a wider audience, including those with visual impairments. Read on to find out about its latest projects in 2024 with three key partners in France and Italy.

Art at Your Fingertips in Paris & Aix-En-Provence

EssilorLuxottica designed tactile interpretations of art included in ‘The Prose of the World’ exhibition by French artist Jean Hélion on until Aug. 18 at the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris, which is one of the biggest modern and contemporary art museums in France.

Innovative 3D surface-printing technology recreated details of the original artworks with unmatched precision, while also remaining faithful to the colors used. These accurate interpretations allow exhibition participants, notably blind and visually impaired visitors, to explore the diversity of the art through touch for a deeply immersive experience.

EssilorLuxottica is also sponsoring tactile interpretations of masterpieces at Musée Granet in Aix-En-Provence, which is home to a vast collection of notable paintings by local and international masters from the 14th to 20th centuries. Soon to be on display in September, these tactile interpretations produced with surface 3D printing technology enable visitors with visual impairments to discover the wealth of the museum’s artworks in a way adapted uniquely for them.

As part of its partnership activities with the Italy Patria della Bellezza Foundation (Fondazione Italia Patria della Bellezza), which promotes Italy’s beauty and talent in various forms, EssilorLuxottica awarded a special ‘Eyes on Art’ prize to the Capitolare Library of Verona, a library renowned for its precious manuscripts.

Showcasing the library’s artistic and cultural heritage to the world from April to May 2024, EssilorLuxottica broadcast a custom video across its digital screens located at key points in Milan (Piazza Cadorna, Piazza Cordusio, and San Babila) and New York (Fifth Avenue) as well as during start of June on its office and retail store screens.

The video takes viewers on a journey to discover the rooms and unique treasures housed in the world's oldest library still in activity today.
