Eyes on Carbon

Working towards Carbon Neutrality by 2025, starting in Europe from 2023

Working towards carbon neutrality

In order to see clearly, we need to work cleanly. Starting in Europe from 2023, we’re focusing on reducing and neutralizing the carbon footprint of our direct operations (Scope 1 and 2) across key areas:

Electricity:

We have a vision. To produce and procure renewable electricity wherever we can – and for our global electricity mix to eventually be 100% renewable.

We create our own renewable energy whenever possible – by investing in solar and biomass heating systems, and in photovoltaic installations for
electricity. As of today, these investments have an annual output of 6,300 MWh of renewable electricity.

Across our Italian manufacturing sites, several of these initiatives have enabled us to significantly reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and consequently reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. In Asia and North America, we are working to identify long-term renewable solutions to invest in - such as wind or solar farms.

We also increased the share of renewables in our energy mix by working with the main providers of green energy. By the end of 2021, 100% of the energy we purchase in France and Italy will be zero-emissions certified.

Efficiency:

We’re investing in new process designs and guaranteeing a frequent update of equipment and technologies. For example, the introduction of the eco-sustainable electroplating technique (an integrated water treatment and recycling system) in our main manufacturing sites of metal frames and components in China and Italy allowed us to reduce our annual water and energy consumption by 210 million liters and 1,800 megawatt hours, respectively.

In-setting:

We’re also investing in initiatives to protect and restore natural ecosystems, as well as promoting the well-being of local communities. In December 2020 we launched a major forest restoration project of 30 hectares in the foothills of the Dolomites (UNESCO World Heritage Site) - situated beside our main production plant in Agordo, Italy. Through this project, we have so far safeguarded 15,000 trees and planted an additional 2,000 new ones to increase the forest’s health and biodiversity.

Green shipping

Green shipping

We’ve created our green shipping initiative that empowers our customers to choose greener delivery options - aligning their shopping experience with their values. Partnering with distribution partners, we are working on reducing our downstream emissions (Scope 3) in pursuit of our net-zero goal.

Commitment to UN SDGs

We are committed to creating a better, more sustainable future for all. With the above, we are proud to be contributing to the below UN Sustainable Development Goals:

Affordable and clean energy
Climate action
